Moving again! Goodbye to my happy home for the past few months, the Majorca Building.
This building derives its name from the Meditarranean island that also inspired the broadly Spanish styling, the deep sea blue, and the shell motifs in the ‘faience’ (a type of tile) façade. Designed by architect Harry Norris, it was completed in 1930 as offices and showrooms, with multiple retail outlets along Centre Place, now one of Melbourne’s most vibrant lanes.- “Walking Melbourne,” The National Trust guide to the historic and architectural landmarks of central Melbourne.
My favourite bits of the building: the view on a rainy day, tiles, the lift.
My favourite places nearby: Aix Creperie for lemon and sugar crepes and lavender tea, Journal Canteen’s antipasto for lunch, and shopping at Smitten Kitten, Alice Euphemia, Aesop, Lion in Love.
My favourite Melbourne building - cannot believe you got to live there!!!
